Servus Peter,
Alles berechtig.
It is simply too early.
We only began selling the radio about 10 days ago.
There are Beta Testers in the Facebook DNS group, but I guess they are not considered to be neutral either.
As far as I know, the Chinese video is the only one on the web right now.
Nick is indeed on the development team and my main contact, but he is not the main engineer. That is Dobri, LZ2TU. Dobri explained the voltage situation to Nick and Nick struggled to explain it to me. Unfortunately Dobri is the man who insisted on the 13.6v limit, not Nick. Nick and I both tried to get him to raise it to 13.8v but he would not do it.
Rob Sherwood has a 512 in his lab right now, but has not yet begun to test. He has just finished testing the FTdx101-D.
The 512 is next up for testing.
When we opened the Ten-Tec distribution in 2004 and showed the Orion for the first time in FN, we had the same problem; no outdoor antenna. We tried an indoor antenna. Disaster. The next year I brought a mag-loop antenna to FN and we could hear a little, but still had way too much QRN.
A couple of the members here have purchased the radio. I am anxiously awaiting their feedback HERE.
As I said, Data Security is a big issue these days. Until someone sends me a review and gives me permission to distribute it, I can't say anything.
However, here is what I can do. I have user feedback on the SKY-SDR which is the predecessor of the ALT-512. The OM (Philippe) has a K3 and KX3 and compared it to these two radios. Keep in mind that the engineers claim that the ALT-512 has better dynamic range than the SKY-SDR but I have no way of measuring that.
When I run the SKY and ALT side by side, I don't hear a difference . . . of course the 512 has the nicer display and much more user-friendly user interface. When I compare them to my Ten-Tec Eagle, both have better DSP filters and a little quieter receiver than the Eagle.
I will create a new thread about the SKY-SDR performance.
